Hello guys! My sister is pregnant and she was advice by her OB to eat fish no more than 6 – 12 ounces of light tuna or for other fish twice a week. It is because almost every kind of fish contains trace amount of Methylmercury. It is a compound which is known to be harmful in high doses to an unborn developing nervous system. Do you guys know about it? What kind of fishes are safe to eat? Thanks!

Hi, yes ! I will  agree on that. Fish and other kinds of seafood is needed during pregnancy. Others said, that it could help prevent preterm birth. Though, there are limitations also because most doctors would advise pregnant women to eat fish lower in mercury. Among the safest are salmon, tilapia (also known as St. Peter’s fish) catfish, and light canned tuna will do.
